Scope:

This project was new University teaching facility containing lecture and seminar rooms for the University of York.

The mechanical and electrical consisted of providing design of key elements with a close detail required for the coordination of services within a demanding building structure.

The mechanical systems consisted of underfloor heating via a gas-fired boiler system. Each space was served by high level exposed multi-service active chilled beams which provided both fresh air and cooling to the spaces. The chilled water (via a central chiller) was controlled by local zoned valves which shut off if the client wished to use the available natural ventilation via openable windows.

Separate air handling units were installed to serve each zone to allow flexible ‘out of hours’ use of the building.

Domestic services were via a storage tank, booster set and gas-fired instantaneous unit with buffer vessel.

The electrical works included: site infrastructure works (networking to the campus facilities), installation of cable management, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, small power, CCTV, security, external lighting, power supplies to mechanical services and controls wiring.
